First Chapter, First Paragraph & Teaser Tuesday: The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan

fistchapFirst chapter, first two paragraphs, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea.

I’m reading The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan, author of The Joy Luck Club.  Here is the opening:

Bonesetter'sDaughterChapter One:  Truth

These are the things I know are true:

My name is LuLing Liu Young. The names of my husgands were Pan Kai Jing and Edwin Young, both of them dead and our secrets gone with them. My daughter is Ruth Luyi Young. She was born in a Water Dragon Year and I in a Fire Dragon Year. So we are the same but for opposite reasons.

I know all this, yet there is one name I cannot remember.

TeaserTuesdays-ADailyRhythm3-300x203Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

From the same book:

LuLing shook her head. “That’s not my real mother.”

Ruth’s mind turned in loops, trying to translate what her mother meant.

Would you keep reading?  Why or why not?  Leave a comment and link to your participation in both or either of these memes.

I’m liking it more now that I’m into Part Two. I’ve never read her before so I haven’t made up my mind yet. Another day or so before I’ll be finished. Thanks for coming by.
