First chapter, first paragraph, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea.
My current read is a junior/teen read, the 4th in the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz, Eagle Strike. Here’s the beginning of the Prologue:
The Amazon Jungle. Fifteen years ago.
It had taken them five days to make the journey, cutting their way through the dense, suffocating undergrowth, fighting through the very air, which hung heavy, moist, and still. Trees as tall as cathedrals surrounded them, and a strange green light — almost holy — shimmered through the vast canopy of leaves. The rain forest seemed to have an intelligence of its own. Its voice was the sudden screech of a parrot, the flicker of a monkey swinging through the branches overhead. It knew they were there.
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here’s the teaser from Chapter 3, Matador, p.37:
A flicker of annoyance passed across the Russian’s face. “You are only alive because I permit it. Please don’t make me ask you a second time.”
Would you keep reading? Give us a teaser from your current read!
I especially liked the second teaser! It definitely makes you wonder what happens next!

This isn’t a series I would be drawn to but, I hope you enjoy them. Thanks for joining us this week.

You might enjoy some of his books for adults. If you like mysteries, he wrote a Sherlock Holmes sequel called The House of Silk.

Absolutely love this teaser! I remember these coming out when I was in high school and I won a signed copy from our library – I was so pleased! Unlike now when I realise that was over ten years ago! My how the time flies.

I’d hate to tell you how old I was when this series came out. I had been teaching for about 20 years and I started late in life. Ten years doesn’t seem that long ago. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for the series.

It’s a boxed set of five — the complete series — and I know my great-nephew is going to love them.

That sounds like just my kind of book. Haven’t read the Alex Rider series (or anything else by that author but may have to seek it out.

He’s written a lot for adults as well such as a new Sherlock Holmes and he’s written for TV, probably the most familiar being Foyle’s War. He’s extremely prolific.

I did recognise the name but couldn’t have told you what he’d written. Thanks for the recommendation.

I read the first one in this series when I was still working for the library. I thought it was a fun book and one that boys as well as girls would like. Yes, I’d continue. In fact, I ought to start again with this YA series. 🙂
