First chapter, first paragraph, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea.
This is a new author for me and I’m excited about reading his book. I heard about it last week on Teaser Tuesday and it really captured my imagination. Here’s first chapter, first paragraph:
progris riport 1 martch 3
Dr. Strauss says I shoud rite down what I think and remembir and evrey thing that happins to me from now on. I dont no why but he says its importint so they will see if they can use me. I hope they use me becaus Mss Kinnian says mabye they can make me smart. I want to be smart. Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here’s my teaser from p.165 of the same book:
Talking all this out makes me feel a lot better — even a little silly. I don’t really know why I got so upset, or what I’m doing on a jet heading back to New York with Algernon in a shoebox under the seat.
Have you read this book? Did you like it?
What’s your current read? Share a teaser!
I am definitely intrigued!

Oh, this is such a heartbreaking book….. I read it years ago, and saw the movie, starring Cliff Robertson, who gave a stellar performance.
All I can say is, be prepared with your hankies, because you’ll need them. Charlie Gordon is such a WONDERFUL human being, and this is a case of undeserved fate. The novel is beautifully written; I like the author’s technique of showing how Charlie’s writing, along with his intelligence, dramatically improve throughout the novel.
This book makes me wish there were indeed some medical procedure to raise intelligence, at least to an average level. No one should have to struggle with understanding certain basic concepts that most people take for granted, nor struggle with common everyday tasks.
Thanks for sharing this classic! Have a great day!! : )

Wow! Now I’m double anxious to get into it. I can just picture Cliff Robertson in it. I’m not far into it yet — for once this has been a truly random teaser. I’m still in the first chapter. Thanks for taking the time to write such an enthusiastic comment.

No need to be embarrassed! There are so many millions of great books available it’s overwhelming. Even my own little TBR list keeps getting longer no matter how many books I read or how many times I make a resolution not to buy any more until I’ve read all the ones in a pile beside me on the sofa!
