First Chapter, First Paragraph, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea. Anyone can play — just copy the first paragraph of the first chapter (or prologue) and include a picture of the book cover. Leave your link at Bibliophile by the Sea. Here’s the opening paragraph from When Mountains Move, a book of love, hope and trust in the biblical promise that faith can move mountains:
Church bells strike to announce the hour. My body quakes from the force of the sound, and again from the force of the man, uninvited. He pushed me down, nails his elbow into my throat. I fight, kicking, clawing. Screaming.
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here’s my teaser from the same book:
Just as I’m about to yell out “Lion!” Bill Miller’s head arcs over the rise, and as hard as it is to believe, I am suddenly being stalked by two kinds of predators. I hold Isabel close in my arms and tighten my grip on the pistol. I don’t know which is worse, the lion or the man. p.313

A short first paragraph, but it’s very intense. I’m curious about what’s going on.

I’ve finished it now and it really was good — not intense in any way, just a really good story.

It really wasn’t a thriller so much as a romance with some tricky characters and one creepy one. I’ve finished it now and really liked it. Nothing too tense. Thanks for stopping by.

Sounds like a good, scary story. The opening makes me want to know what happens next. Does she escape? Are the church bells significant to the story? I’d keep reading to find out more.

It’s not super scary although parts of it are full of intensity. Lots of newly-wed coping with difficult situations, misunderstandings, and problems with hidden secrets but interesting info associated with native lore and building a ranch basically from scratch. I’d read more by Julie Cantrell. Thanks for coming by. I enjoyed your teaser!
