First Chapter, First Paragraph, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea. Anyone can play — just copy the first paragraph of the first chapter (or prologue) and include a picture of the book cover. Leave your link at Bibliophile by the Sea. I read about this book in two different places recently and decided I had to get it. It’s historical fiction which I find, to my surprise, is becoming a favourite genre of mine. Here’s the opening from Second Glance by Jodi Picoult:
ONE
Ross Wakeman succeeded the first time he killed himself, but not the second or the third.
He fell asleep at the wheel and drove his car off a bridge into a lake — that was the second time — and was found on the shore by rescuers. When his half-sunken Honda was recovered, the doors were all locked, and the tempered glass windows were shattered like spiderwebs, but still intact. No one could figure out how he’d gotten out of the car in the first place, much less survived a crash without even a scratch.

I’m not a huge fan yet. The other one I read before was interesting but I didn’t think it was as super as her reputation. I’m keeping an open mind on this one.

Yes… I was a bit fed up by the end of the second book I read – I felt the writing attempted to manipulate me, which I didn’t like.

I found the main character in Vanishing Acts rather whiny and immature although there were many aspects of the book that I liked. Thanks for leaving comments.

It’s been a while since I read a Jodi Picoult book. I did enjoy but they got a bit samey so I needed a break. Maybe I should try again.

This will be my second Picoult book. When I bought it I think I was under the impression it was more of a murder mystery than a ghost-hunting, paranormal novel but it looks interesting and I’m going to get into it this week. Thanks for stopping by.

I’ve read several Picoult books, but have not read this one. I’m curious what the ‘issue’ is in this one. She always seems to have an issue and I like that. Hope you enjoy it! I think I might have a copy of it around here somewhere.

I read this one so long ago that I barely remember it! Time for a reread? I am familiar with that diner…where “grease was a gourmet seasoning.” LOL.

I remember as a little kid my family was leaving a diner we had stopped at on our holiday and my mom said, “Well, that was a greasy spoon!” It became a favourite family saying. I’m curious to see if the wry humour follows through the whole book. Thanks for coming by. I enjoyed your feature today.
