First Chapter, First Paragraph, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea. Anyone can play — just copy the first paragraph of the first chapter (or prologue) and include a picture of the book cover. Leave your link at Bibliophile by the Sea. Today’s intro and teaser are from a book I haven’t started yet but am really looking forward to reading: The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott. Here’s the opening paragraph:
Louisa May Alcott approached the ticket window of the Boston passenger station clutching a large case and a black parasol. She asked for the tickets on hold under her name — she’d written a week before to reserve them. The clerk’s forehead gleamed, wet in the heat of his cramped booth. He held her gaze a moment longer than was proper and began to ask a question, then stopped. He seemed to decide that if this well-dressed woman was who he thought she was, he probably shouldn’t ask for confirmation. He took the money she offered and gave her back the change.
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, now being hosted by Ambrosia of The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! So, from the same book:
“As soon as I can — as soon as you’re all settled in — I’m leaving for Boston. It’s as if —” Her voice had taken on a childish whine that embarrassed her, and she stopped short. p. 31
What do you think? Would you keep reading? Are you a fan of Louisa May Alcott? Do you like “imagined” biographies? Have you read this first novel by McNees? Share your thoughts and the link to your intro and teaser for this Tuesday!
I love Alcott’s novels, so I would give this imagined biography a try. Thanks for visiting my Teaser this week!

This one sounds enjoyable – I loved the Little Women series when I was a girl, so I’m something of a LMA fan…

I’ve never read it (unless I did as a kid and don’t remember) although I’ve seen the movie and read Little Men. I think it’s going on my list.

It’s a classic and rightly so – I like the fact that her four siblings featured in the story really do quarrel and have real edges. Which isn’t always the case with stories written for youngsters at that time.

I enjoyed this book a few years ago when I was involved in a LMA Reading Challenge. It was great to read the various books “imagining” her life. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “THE CHILD”
BTW…I named my laptop Louisa May Alcott…just sayin’. LOL.

I think that’s terrific. I’m not nearly as inventive about naming my laptops. Thanks for stopping by.
