First Chapter, First Paragraph, is a meme hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea. Anyone can play — just copy the first paragraph of the first chapter (or prologue) and include a picture of the book cover. Leave your link at Bibliophile by the Sea. Here’s the opening paragraph from When Mountains Move, a book of love, hope and trust in the biblical promise that faith can move mountains:
Church bells strike to announce the hour. My body quakes from the force of the sound, and again from the force of the man, uninvited. He pushed me down, nails his elbow into my throat. I fight, kicking, clawing. Screaming.
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here’s my teaser from the same book:
Just as I’m about to yell out “Lion!” Bill Miller’s head arcs over the rise, and as hard as it is to believe, I am suddenly being stalked by two kinds of predators. I hold Isabel close in my arms and tighten my grip on the pistol. I don’t know which is worse, the lion or the man. p.313

Thanks! I especially enjoyed the activity around rebuilding the ranch and getting it up and running. The tension was good, though, as well.

Hi Lorraine,
I like those powerful opening lines and they would definitely be compelling enough to make me want to read on. I was also intrigued by the full premise and pleased to see the outstanding ratings and reviews the book has attracted.
I was considering adding it to my list, however I then noticed that this is a sequel to a novel which features the same protagonist in her childhood years, so I am wondering if they work at all as stand alones, or if the two books need to be read in sequence, which wouldn’t really interest me.
I do hope that you enjoy the read though and thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi Yvonne, I haven’t read the first book in the series and I found there was enough backstory to make up for that. I probably won’t go back and read it although I do plan to read other books she has written which have a different protagonist/setting and sound quite intriguing. Thanks for stopping by.

The cover didn’t do much for me but the teaser sure did.
